Merrell Men’s Chameleon Prime Stretch Hiking Shoe allows the wearer to hike comfortably at a brisk pace. It fits snugly and has an air cushion in the heel to absorb shock. POSITIVES:

One of the best features of the Merrell Men’s Chameleon Prime Stretch Hiking Shoe is the way it fits. With a cinching stretch closure, it ties tightly and also gives great arch support. The soft stretchy opening makes it easy to pull on and take off. This makes the shoe ideal for travel, when you have to quickly remove your shoes in an airport. The Merrell Men’s Chameleon Prime Stretch Hiking Shoe is also good-looking and comfortable.  The neoprene sleeve at the ankle keeps pebbles from getting in. These shoes give you firm footing and traction with a thick tread, so you can walk anywhere in them, from the Vatican halls to rugged trails. They’re great on the job, too, whether you work for UPS, in a restaurant, or in any occupation that puts you on your feet all day. After a long day of walking, you can clean them easily with a stiff brush.

NEGATIVES:

The  Merrell Men’s Chameleon Prime Stretch Hiking Shoe is not waterproof. If the soles get wet, they become slippery, and you’re likely to lose your footing. The sides of the shoes are tall and rub against the ankle bone. You wouldn’t want to wear these shoes without socks, or you’ll get blisters. On the other hand, the thick padding may cause your feet to sweat. These shoes are stiff, and the toe is rigid, and, being intended for hiking on rugged trails, they are a bit heavy to be worn every day. While the leather and mesh upper and toggle lace-up may seem convenient, for some people, the shoes are hard to get on and off, and may require a shoe horn. The laces can’t be loosened. In addition, the insert tends to come out with your foot. After months of wear, the rubber on the heel may crack and peel.

Some other great options worth checking out are the KEEN Men’s Targhee II Mid Waterproof Hiking Boot or the Columbia Men’s North Plains Waterproof Trail Shoe.

SUMMARY:

The Merrell Men’s Chameleon Prime Stretch Hiking Shoe is a great shoe for hikers, travelers, and active guys, whatever the road conditions. They are strong, comfortable, easy to clean, and, for the price, inexpensive when you consider how long they last.  The only danger is that you’ll stop wearing all your other shoes!
